I always used to do Ross Valory first too because his level sucks. Then Steve Smith, Steve Perry, Jonathan Cain, and finally Neil Schon because I could do it with my eyes closed. Still it took a lot of freakin’ quarters to get to the stage. Man…
This was the first arcade game to use a music group. This is the coolest game next to Tron I have played when I was a kid in the 80′s.This arcade game is a keeper!
I remember seeing this game when I was a kid at some amusement park and it scared the heck out of me and gave me nightmares. 2 years later I was back at this same amusment park and it was still there so I played it. I remember it being really hard especially since it was before they invented the continue game option lol.
Except “Journey Escape” wasn’t released in the arcade, of course — it was released for the Atari Video Computer System, or in shorthand form, the 2600. C:
When I first played this game, I had no clue what it was till I got “Escape” (or, as printed on the cover, “E5C4P3″) on vinyl for an early Christmas present — then I managed to figure it out.
i haven’t seen this since ‘barrel of fun’ closed mid-eighties. i thought it played the music of journey, was it really that 8-bit single note simplicity?
I know what you mean. The novelty of a tape player used for the bonus round more than makes up for what reminded me of a Tron-like game from the start (the way the Tron arcade game used a similar concept of multiple rounds you could choose to go to).
Most of the game’s sounds and music is generated by two AY-3-8910 chips. During the bonus round, a cassette player inside the machine plays a loop tape of Separate Ways (Worlds Apart). Electronic Journey songs include: Chain Reaction, Don’t Stop Believin’, Lights, Still They Ride, Stone In Love and Wheel In The Sky.
This is hilariously awesome. I’m so jealous that you have this!
Imagine how mind blowing that was back then. An arcade game with a rock band!

Actually, Mario Bros. and Journey were BOTH released in 1983, just to clarify.

This game came out in 1982…Mario Bros didn’t some out till ’83.
It plays midi type music during the rounds and then at the concert a tape deck inside kicks on Seperate Ways.

It’s not MAME, it’s the original 1983 Arcade Game.
what version of mame is that?
Yes, it is true, though you will touch and go your separate ways.
This game was obviously influenced by the Mario stuff…
Oh, those were the days….and oh, I’m getting so old….
So is it true that one day love will find me? Especially if I play JOURNEY, THE ARCADE GAME?
I had it on an emulator a few years back. It was OK. I know how to get it (I think). PM me if you are interested.
i would kill to have this game..
It’s actually not.
There was a Journey-based arcade game released before it entitled, ‘Journey Escape,’ to tie in with the band’s ‘Escape’ LP.
I kind of recognized the chorus of Stone in Love…

I wanna play this! xD
