Yuichi Onoue “Chimakiya (roast meat)” played on Ribbon Controller (tail Yuichi)

Yuichi Onoue plays “Chimakiya (烧 肉粽) – Taiwanese pop song (She is famous in song by Teresa Teng.) – By the hand of the ribbon control. Modern Studio in 2002. This hand electric musical instrument can change a field oscillator smooth, depending on where you press down. Ribbon control was done as a sort of controller synthesizer Moog late 60s. I made this following its example. And the style of play is an autodidact. The ribbon controller hooked to the single analog oscillator. The oscillator frequency changes in the value of electrical resistance. Electric, the ribbon controller is just a variable electrical resistance. I use KORG AX1G multi-effects pedal .
In this tune, I selected the resonanced low pass filter on it.
Both Ribbon Controller and Oscilator(which generates very simple pulse like wave) are handmade.

what do you use for a filter? Some stuff sounds like a wah-wah band pass filter, other things sound like you have a low pass filter. very cool anyway

    That was excellent!

Any chance you could tell us how you made the ribbon controler? You say what materials, but could you be a little more specific? It looks like an excellent project

It’s nice to see such a simple instrument played with such elegance and expression. I’ll have to add this to my list of instruments I’d like to build sometime.

    Thanks everybody to comment.
It hooked up to simple analogue oscillator.
The frequency of the oscillator changes
in the value of electric resistance.
Electrically, This ribbon controller is just an electric variable resistance.

Yeah, seems more like a ribbon controller hooked up to an analogue voltage controlled synth.
